About the lab
The Dr. Theo and Friedl Schöller Research Lab “Future of Work” explores how work can be shaped in the digital age. Funded by the Schöller Foundations, the lab aims to strengthen academic research on the future of work while also providing impetus for business and society.
Our work centers on research projects that examine key developments in the digital world of work and analyze their impact on organizations, leadership, and collaboration. In doing so, we combine academic excellence with a commitment to presenting our findings in an accessible manner and engaging in dialogue with businesses, policymakers, and the public.

Our Research Focus Areas
To gain a holistic understanding of the future of work, the lab focuses on three key areas:
People – Tasks – Artificial Intelligence
We are examining how work is changing as AI becomes an increasingly integral part of tasks, decision-making processes, and collaboration. Our focus is particularly on shaping collaboration between humans and AI systems, new skill requirements, and responsible ways of dividing labor between humans and technology.
People – Space – Time
Digitalization is changing where and when work takes place. In this area, we analyze hybrid work models, remote work, and virtual collaboration, as well as the organizational and technological conditions necessary for successful collaboration across different locations and time zones.
People – Leadership – Structure
Digital technologies are also transforming leadership and organization. We examine how leaders, teams, and organizations need to adapt their structures, decision-making processes, and HR practices to successfully shape the future of work amid digital transformation.

We work closely with an international network of research associates. This network supports both the academic development of our researchers and the implementation of joint research projects.
